CÚRCUMA IS THE NEW BLACK

TURMERIC IS THE NEW BLACK

What would you think if you were told that there is a way to treat acne, spots caused by the sun, dull skin, skin oxidation caused by pollution, psoriasis and eczema, premature aging and prevent growth of the cells that cause Melanomas, all this with a single phytochemical ? Surely your mind will have been analyzing the word '' phytochemical'' and wondering what other element has just been included in the periodic table, or you will think that it is one of those reckless marketing that try to sell us a cosmetic product at any cost. The truth is that this, or these, powerful chemical compounds exist and date back more than 40 years with a presence in the market (worldwide): it is Turmeric and its derivative chemical compounds.

Curcuma Longa L. It is native to Southeast Asia, well known for its medicinal and culinary properties, whose benefits have been studied and proven since the 1970s 1 .

For many of us, turmeric is the condiment, the cure and the cosmetic, a wonderful three in one, but do we know the reasons for its powerful activity? This is where we explain about phytochemicals: they are chemical compounds produced by plants, being the Curcuminoids the ones that are present in this species and are responsible for their therapeutic action, among which stand out: their healing power on inflammatory disorders and neoplastic of the skin, as well as on Psoriasis 2 and its activity in the inhibition of the proteasome of colon cancer cells 3 .

Now, what are the applications and benefits of turmeric when it exists in cosmetic formulations?

1) The most important Curcuminoids of this plant are curcumin, demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin , they are responsible for the fact that cosmetic products that include Turmeric as an active ingredient have anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, Melasma inhibitor, anti-inflammatory properties. bacterial (responsible for fighting acne) and anti-aging , all in one.

2) The characteristic color of turmeric is yellow (intense) and it is used as a colorant in natural cosmetic formulations, classified as safe for the environment 4 .

3) Essential oils derived from turmeric are widely used in the perfume and soap industry.

4) It has been shown that curcumin, by attenuating oxidative stress and suppressing skin inflammation, is capable of protecting the degeneration of cancer cells that cause different types of melanoma, blocking photoaging and photocarcinogenesis 5 .

Despite the powerful list of benefits that this species offers us, we must be aware that its excessive use could lead to side effects, among the most important are :

1) In its oral form, the most common are: reflux, diarrhea, dizziness and headaches.

2) In its topical form, the side effect that is most associated with this form is allergies, since some turmeric powders that we find in stores turn out to be adulterated with cheaper and potentially toxic active ingredients 6 or contain heavy metals 7 , 8 that could affect very sensitive skin, not counting the yellow color that will remain on our skin from abusing the doses in those home remedies!

At OrglizLab we are aware of the magnificent power of turmeric, which is why we have developed the Golden Facial Mask that takes care of all the formulation parameters that are required when introducing turmeric into cosmetics! This golden dream contains carrot seed essence and multiple vitamins derived from oats, soy and almonds, giving your skin an incomparable glow, favoring its hydration, restoring elasticity and stimulating collagen production.
