EL CBD Y LA COSMÉTICA

CBD AND COSMETICS

In recent months, a new concept of cosmetics has become a trend in the international market: cosmetics fused with cannabis, and as we know that it is a subject that many people still have a certain amount of distrust, at OrglizLab we wanted to go a little deeper. more and explain a little what it is about.

CANNABIS AND ITS COSMETIC USE

Cannabis, better known as Cannabis sativa, is a substance whose psychotropic and industrial use has been implemented since ancient times, however, it is important to note that in this new boom with very prominent benefits are attributed to cannabidol or CBD , a molecule produced by this plant, which plays the main role in the cosmetic industry, since unlike other molecules of the plant, it does not have a psychoactive effect, nor does it affect any physiological parameter.

The updates of the regulations worldwide regarding cannabis have given way to the cosmetic market presenting initiatives innovative which provide excellent benefits for skin.

BENEFITS OF CBD ON THE SKIN

Before continuing, it is pertinent to mention that in the human body there are also cannabinoids, such as anandamide, which, like other molecules in our body, fulfills the role of cannabinoid receptor , which can be found at different levels such as in the keratinocytes of the epidermis, pilosebaceous follicles, among others, mainly fulfilling the maintenance of skin homeostasis as well as its barrier function.

Among the main benefits of cannabis and its regulated molecules for cosmetic use we can find:

  • Hydration : Promoted by hemp or hemp oil, which is rich in fatty acids, omega 3, omega 6 and omega 9, which gives way to skin hydration and gives it a softening effect.
  • Antioxidant: Effect promoted by CNB, rich in vitamin E and phenolic acid, which has a very powerful antioxidant effect thanks to the synergy of these compounds that fight against free radicals and other external factors that promote premature aging of our skin.
  • Regenerates : Another effect that CNB provides, is that in addition to vitamin E and some other groups of vitamins B and C, it contains polyphenols and terpenes. Its exceptional antioxidant and Omega 3 index provides the skin with detoxifying, regenerative and revitalizing properties.
  • Anti-inflammatory : especially CBD, reduces and attenuates the irritative and inflammatory processes of the skin. For this reason, it is not surprising that many cosmetics that contain it are specially formulated for sensitive, oily or acne-prone skin.

CURRENT REGULATORY SITUATION

Within the different types of CBD that are on the market we can find those of full spectrum, broad spectrum or isolated, each one complies with a maximum permitted parameter so that before the products can be put on the market, the relevant entities carry out the respective revision and can approve its use.

The global regulatory situation for the use of CBD is still ongoing. In some countries in the United States we can already find these products in large cosmetic distribution chains such as Sephora, however, there is still a long way to go by the competent bodies of cosmetic regulation.

The regulations are mostly based on the THC content within the CNB. For example, in Europe the cultivation of the hemp variety of Cannabis sativa is allowed as long as the THC concentration does not exceed 0.2%, therefore, the raw material used in cosmetic formulations must strictly come from industrial hemp crops.

The European Commission pronounced that cannabidiol is not within the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs of 1961, however, as it comes from prohibited substances such as extracts, resins or tinctures of Cannabis Cannabidiol, it is considered within the scope of the prohibition, allowing its use as long as it does not come from parts of the plant that are considered narcotic.

As we previously mentioned, it is a subject that is still ongoing, so we must be attentive to the regulations that apply to each country to proceed with a cosmetic development that contains it, since they may or may not have additional requirements to this global vision. .
