LOS EFECTOS DE LA CONTAMINACION AMBIENTAL SOBRE NUESTRA PIEL

THE EFFECTS OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION ON OUR SKIN

Perhaps you have heard the term ''pollution''. According to the Royal Spanish Academy, it refers to "intense and harmful pollution of water or air, produced by waste from industrial or biological processes." Perhaps now you are understanding better about that product you saw in the pharmacy with the claim ''anti-pollution'', but why? What are the consequences of pollution on our skin?

Before giving you a rundown on the consequences, we want you to understand why. Our skin is the most important line of defense between the outside and the inside of our body since we not only eat and breathe toxins from the environment, we also absorb them through our skin. Only low molecular weight molecules are the ones that can pass through it and therefore damage it, especially in skin with an altered barrier function.

Pollution is also related to free radicals. Our own body's immune system creates free radicals to help fight infections and bacteria. UV radiation, tobacco, environmental pollution or food also influence the formation of free radicals.

Now, what effects does environmental pollution have on our skin?

-       It breaks down collagen and oxidizes the lipid layer of our skin.
-       Increases sebum production to isolate external factors and prevent their incidence.
-       It increases the inflammation and redness of our skin as a protective response.
-       Potentially increases skin aging, stress and oxidative damage to it.
-       Enhances the formation of wrinkles and spots on the skin.
-       SMOG particles, which are often too large to penetrate the skin, end up causing dehydration, sensitivity, uneven skin tone, dullness, acne, and premature aging as they try to break through the protective barrier.

However, living implies exposing our skin to external factors, therefore it will oxidize, it will age, and that is fine, we should not dramatize, we simply have to be aware of the damage and protect ourselves.

One of the best ways to combat pollution is to maintain impeccable hygiene. Cleansing and moisturizing are key. Including Detox Ingredients in our routine, such as Activated Charcoal, can help cleanse our skin and eliminate pollution particles that have settled on our skin throughout the day.

The Detox Exfoliating Gel is an excellent option to combat pollution. Activated charcoal, kaolin clay, aloe vera and the pure essence of Malaleuca act in synergy to balance sebum production, remove dead cells, reduce blackheads, draw out impurities, minimize pores and soothe inflamed skin. At the same time, it is an excellent treatment for the control of acne-prone skin.
